A script reader app that reads the other roles out loud

A script on the page is an argument with itself. A script out loud is a scene. Actor Reader takes what you paste in and reads the other roles back to you, so you can hear the thing instead of studying it.

Hearing a script is different from reading one

Read silently, everything moves at the speed of your eyes, and the pauses are wherever you decide to put them. Out loud, the scene has a real length. Jokes either land or they do not. A monologue you thought was tight turns out to run ninety seconds.

That difference is why table reads exist, and why a scene you have only read is a scene you have not really met yet.

You cannot rehearse a scene you have only read. Get it out of your eyes and into the room.

Sides, scenes, and full scripts

Paste in what you have. Sides from casting, a scene from a play, a page of commercial copy, or a whole script you want to hear on its feet. There is no import step and nothing to install.

For longer material, work a scene at a time. You will get more out of five passes on the scene that matters than one pass on all forty pages.

Choosing the voice for the other role

Pick a voice that fits the character you are playing against, from 40+ in the library. Age, weight, and warmth all change what a scene asks of you, and testing a scene against two different voices is one of the fastest ways to find a read you had not considered.

Once you pick, it stays consistent. The same cue at the same pace on every pass is what makes a rehearsal comparable to the one before it.

Common questions

Can I have my script read out loud?

Yes. Paste the script or the sides into Actor Reader, choose a voice for the other role, and hit play. The reader speaks the other lines and leaves yours to you.

What file types can I use?

Copy and paste works from anywhere: a PDF of sides, an email, a Google Doc, a screenshot you retyped. Pasting is the fastest path from a script you just received to a rehearsal.

Can it read a whole script?

It can, though most actors work scene by scene. Running one scene five ways teaches you more than running fifty pages once.
